Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking an Endoscopy Technician to assist during GI endoscopic procedures under the supervision of the Endoscopist and RN. You will help prepare the procedure room, equipment, and supplies, and ensure instrument reprocessing and documentation are completed accurately.

The role emphasizes effective communication with patients and the care team, and opportunities to assist with specialized procedures under MD/RN direction, contributing to safe, efficient patient care.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED, or 1–3 months related experience and/or training.
• Associate's degree in health-related field preferred.
• Prior GI-endoscopy experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist in GI endoscopic procedures as directed by RN/MD.
• Maintain procedure room supplies and endoscopic equipment.
• Disassemble and reprocess instrumentation after procedures and maintain documentation.
• Maintain effective two-way communications with patients, families, and health care team.
• Assist with special procedures under RN/MD direction (e.g., YAG lasers, wound care, line insertions).
• Perform other duties as assigned or required.

GENERAL OVERVIEW

Acts under the direction of the Endoscopist and/or Registered Nurse during endoscopic procedures. May assist the RN in technical aspects of circulating duties.

Essential Responsibilities

• Participates in the maintenance of Procedure room supplies and endoscopic equipment. Assures the integrity/condition and availability of adequate equipment.(40%)
• Functions as an integral member of the team throughout the performance of GI-endoscopic procedures. (30%)
• Disassembles and reprocesses instrumentation on a post-procedure basis as per current departmental policy. Maintains documentation as per policy. (20%)
• Maintains effective two-way communications with patients, families, and all members of the health care team.(5%)
• May assist with special procedures under the direction of the RN and MD (e.g., Yag lasers, wound care, line insertions, etc). (5%)
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

Minimum

• High school diploma / GED or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

• Associate's degree in health-related field.
• Prior GI-endoscopy experience.

Additional Employment Requirements

• CPR- American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
