Job summary

Allegheny Health Network is seeking a GI Endoscopy Support Specialist to assist the endoscopist and RN during procedures. You will help maintain the procedure room, ensure equipment readiness, and support post-procedure reprocessing of instrumentation.

The role emphasizes teamwork, accurate documentation, adherence to HIPAA and safety policies, and willingness to perform related duties as assigned. CPR and background clearances are required.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; 1–3 months related experience.
• Preferred: Associate degree in health-related field.
• CPR certified and background clearances as required.
• HIPAA compliance and privacy policies awareness.

General Overview

Acts under the direction of the Endoscopist and/or Registered Nurse during endoscopic procedures. May assist the RN in technical aspects of circulating duties.

Essential Responsibilities

• Participates in the maintenance of Procedure room supplies and endoscopic equipment. Assures the integrity/condition and availability of adequate equipment.(40%)
• Functions as an integral member of the team throughout the performance of GI-endoscopic procedures. (30%)
• Disassembles and reprocesses instrumentation on a post-procedure basis as per current departmental policy. Maintains documentation as per policy. (20%)
• Maintains effective two-way communications with patients, families, and all members of the health care team.(5%)
• May assist with special procedures under the direction of the RN and MD (e.g., Yag lasers, wound care, line insertions, etc). (5%)
• Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Qualifications

Minimum

• High school diploma / GED or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred

• Associate's degree in health-related field.
• Prior GI-endoscopy experience.

Additional Employment Requirements

• CPR- American Heart Association within 60 days of hire.
• Act 34 Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
• Act 33 Child Abuse Clearance Certificate
• Act 73 FBI Fingerprinting Criminal Background Clearance Certificate
