Job summary

Ardent Health Services is seeking a Day-Shift Endoscopy Lab-B Endoscopy Technician in Montclair, NJ. The role supports the RN in delivering direct patient care and handling endoscopy scopes with emphasis on safety and compliance.

Requirements include a high school diploma or equivalent and BLS within 14 days of hire; CNA or nursing student preferred. Previous healthcare facility experience is a plus. Competitive rate based on experience.

Qualifications

• CNA certification and/or nursing student enrolled in a nursing program preferred.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Responsibilities

• Provide direct patient care under RN supervision and maintain a safe patient area.
• Participate in the daily plan of care for patients per nursing and unit policies.
• Decontaminate and process endoscopes after use; perform cleaning and disinfection per manufacturer and APIC guidelines.
• Take vital signs and document results; notify RN of abnormal findings.
• Communicate with patients and caregivers at appropriate developmental/educational levels.
• Follow physician and nurse instructions and hospital policies for Endoscopic unit care.
• Identify patient needs and adjust care to age, culture, hearing/visual impairment as needed.
• Report observations of symptoms or changes in patient condition to the nurse.
• Work in scope room and adhere to unit policies and procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Responsibilities

• The Endoscopy Technician will be responsible for providing direct patient care under the direction of the RN professional to all assigned patients and maintaining a safe patient area.
• They will assume responsibility and accountability for patient care as a team member to achieve established outcomes.
• The Endoscopy Technician participates in the daily plan of care for the patients in accordance with established nursing and facility policy/procedures.
• Daily activities include decontamination and processing of endoscopes.
• Takes vital signs under the direction of the RN, documents accordingly on appropriate flow sheets, and notifies the RN of the results.
• Identifies the needs of the patient population served and modifies and delivers care that is specific to those needs (i.e., age, culture, hearing and/or visually impaired, etc.).
• This process includes communicating with the patient, parent, and/or primary caregiver(s) at their level (developmental/age, educational, literacy, etc.)
• Follows instructions of physician and professional nurse closely, adhering to established hospital routine and policies and specific policies of the Endoscopic unit.
• Must have complete understanding of endoscopic techniques and safety.
• Reports to the nurse any observation of patient symptoms, changes in physical or mental condition-signs and symptoms which may be indicative of untoward change.
• Works in scope room and follows policies and procedures established for care of area and scopes.
• Cleans, tests, and disinfects scopes after each use according to manufacturer and APIC guidelines.
• Cleans, tests, and disinfects any other equipment used during the procedure.
• Perform any and all other duties assigned.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Certified Nursing Assistant and/or nursing student enrolled in a Nursing program who has successfully completed theoretical and clinical practicals in fundamentals of nursing in nursing school preferred.
• BLS certification must be obtained within 14 days of hire or transfer into the role and prior to providing direct patient care.

Preferred Job Requirements:

• Previous experience in a healthcare facility.

Rate of pay is determined based on experience and education, and may include other pay components such as differentials and call pay based on role.
