Job summary

MercyOne North Iowa Medical Center in Mason City, IA is seeking a Surgical Technologist to assist the Endoscopy team by preparing operating rooms and supporting procedures under the supervision of the circulating nurse. You will verify the correct surgical site, assist with patient transport as needed, and prepare the pre-operative site.

Responsibilities include reviewing OR schedules, gathering equipment based on surgeon preference, performing surgical scrubs, and maintaining a sterile field.

Qualifications

• Graduate of an accredited school of surgical technology or equivalent.
• CST certification preferred but not required in Iowa.
• LPN license may be required if graduate of LPN program.
• No prior experience required; endo/GI experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Assist the surgical team in Endoscopy by preparing operating rooms and supporting procedures under the supervision of the circulating nurse.
• Verify correct surgical site, assist with patient transport as needed, and prepare the pre-operative site.
• Review OR schedules, note changes to procedures, and gather required equipment, instruments, and supplies based on surgeon preference cards.
• Perform surgical scrub, don sterile gown and gloves, and participate in opening and maintaining the sterile field.
• Instrument surgical cases, pass instruments to surgeons, and anticipate needs to support uninterrupted procedures.
• Perform sponge, sharps, and instrument counts in accordance with policy.
• Assist with prepping and draping patients and gowning and gloving surgical team members.
• Prepare sterile dressings and ensure all equipment is functioning properly, reporting any malfunctions, and more.
