Job summary

The University of Virginia in Charlottesville is seeking entry-level Allied Health roles to support clinicians in delivering patient care across diagnostic, therapeutic and procedural tasks. These positions collaborate with physicians, nurses, and other staff to maintain efficient operations.

Roles involve preparation, sterilization, instrument handling and post-operative support across hospital, surgical centers, and clinics. No perioperative nurse designation.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.
  • Experience: 1 year or relevant experience preferred; CNA, EMT, PCT or CMA highly preferred.
  • Licensure: No certification required at hire; some certifications within 6 months may be required.

Responsibilities

  • Assist healthcare professionals in delivering patient care and supporting diagnostic, therapeutic and procedural tasks.
  • Prepare, sterilize, and handle instruments for surgical teams and related operations.
  • Support postoperative care and collaborate with physicians, nurses and other staff across hospital, surgical centers and clinics.

Job description

These roles provide essential assistance to healthcare professionals in delivering patient care. Ensure the smooth functioning of clinical operations by handling tasks that support the diagnostic, therapeutic, and procedural aspects of patient care. Allied Health - Health Services professionals work closely with physicians, nurses, and other healthcare providers to enhance the efficiency and effectiveness of medical services.
These roles focus on the preparation, performance, and post‑operative support to surgical teams. Responsibilities include sterilization, instrument preparation and handling, and or operational or hands‑on support required during surgery. May work in our hospitals, surgical centers, and clinics, and have responsibilities from planning and preparation to recovery and follow‑up. Does not include Perioperative Nurses.

Individual contributors who provide support to an organization, often in direct service, operational, technical or administrative functions. Spends majority of time in the delivery of support services or activities, typically under supervision. Opportunities for progression outside this career stream are typically limited without additional education or significant training and experience.

Entry‑level position typically requiring little to no prior experience. Work is routine and follows standard procedures. Work is closely supervised. Problems faced are routine with clearly defined solutions. Communicates information that requires little explanation or interpretation.

Minimum Requirements
  • Education: High School Graduate or Equivalent.

Physical Demands
  • Job requires sitting/standing for prolonged periods, frequently bending/stooping/traveling and reaching (overhead, extensive, repetitive). Proficient communicative, auditory and visual skills; Attention to detail and ability to write legibly; Ability to lift/push/pull 25-50lbs. Working in environment with fumes, chemicals, vibrations, heat, noise, blood/body fluids and infectious disease.

The pay range for this role is $16.31 - $25.28 hourly. Individual compensation will be determined by the selected candidate's qualifications, previous work experience, and/or education.
