Job summary

6 Degrees Search seeks a Project Engineer in Boonton, NJ, to own engineered water and wastewater equipment projects from order through shipment, including schedules, submittals, documentation, and customer communications.

The role balances time between the office, nearby fabrication shop, and occasional customer sites. Requires a mechanical engineering degree and 4+ years of full project ownership experience, with on-site work in northern NJ.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or closely related discipline.
• 4+ years of project engineering experience in manufacturing, water and wastewater, or public works.
• Hands-on experience owning engineered equipment projects end to end.
• Strong ability to read and review fabrication drawings.

Responsibilities

• Manage engineered equipment projects from order receipt through shipment, holding schedule and budget.
• Serve as the customer-facing engineer on each project, working with consulting engineers, contractors, municipalities, and end users.
• Prepare and manage submittal packages, O&M documentation, project schedules, and internal coordination across sales, engineering, purchasing, and production.
• Coordinate with the in-house fabrication shop and outside fabricators on drawings, build sequencing, and inspections.
• Review drawings for fit, function, and manufacturability before they reach the shop.
• Participate in weekly project engineering and fabrication meetings to keep the backlog moving.
