Job summary

Oregon Health & Science University seeks an END Technologist 1 to prepare patients and perform routine END procedures under supervision in the neurodiagnostic unit. You will assist with recordings, maintain patient safety, and document findings per policy.

The role requires a high school diploma (or ABRET program enrollment) with some patient-care experience; a bachelor’s degree and BLS are preferred. Location is on-site at OHSU with comprehensive benefits and growth opportunities.

Job description

Department Overview

The END Technologist 1 prepares patients and conducts routine END procedures in the unit; collects data

pertinent to the interpretation of test results and assists senior technologists or medical staff with complex

recordings under indirect supervision.

The END Technologist 1 is an entry to mid-level position in the neurodiagnostic unit or department. The END Technologist 1 performs procedures according to facility policy and procedures. The END Technologist 1 can perform test set up, electrode application, and maintain patient safety during clinically significant events and other related duties. Communication skills are essential for this position.

Function/Duties of Position

NCV and EMG Examinations:

• Performs nerve conduction studies under direct supervision and in accordance with the standards and protocols of the department. Implements alternative methods or adjusts controls to obtain optimal recordings. Accurately places electrodes and measures distances, performing higher level studies such as blink reflexes, H-reflexes, and repetitive stim. Operates equipment and notes pertinent medical conditions or significant anatomical variants for benefit of interpretation by the neuromuscular physician.

Patient Preparation:

• Documents a comprehensive patient history including neurological symptoms and medications. Measures and accurately applies electrodes in a timely manner and with appropriate impedance and may use multiple electrode application techniques. Observes, records and attempts to eliminate outside disturbances that may create artifact.

Other Duties as Assigned

Required Qualifications

• High school graduate or equivalent and 1 year experience working in a neurodiagnostic patient care environment; OR
• Student enrolled at least 6 months in ABRET recognized program and 6 months experience working in a patient care environment; OR
• Bachelor’s degree in related field.
• BLS from AHA required. New hires will be enrolled and required to complete during orientation.

• Knowledge of current techniques/regulatory standards
• Experience working in a patient care environment

Preferred Qualifications

• Enrollment in or graduation from a Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP) accredited Neurodiagnostic Program OR
• An associate's degree or higher from an accredited college or university
• 2 years of Experience in Pediatric and Adult EEG, long term monitoring and EMU.

HRC, DCH, and KPV locations on campus. Possible exposure to human tissue/fluids and direct patient contact.
