Job summary

Merit Health is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician I (EMT I) to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation in accordance with state laws, policies, and clinical protocols. The EMT I supports patient care within the EMS department, maintains equipment, documents patient information, and promotes safety and communication within the EMS team.

Qualifications

• State-approved EMT training program is required.
• Experience in hospital ED, ambulance, or critical care transport is preferred.
• EMT certification and CPR basics are essential.

Responsibilities

• Provide basic emergency medical care and transportation per state laws and policies.
• Assist with patient assessment, vital signs, and care under supervision of a Paramedic or clinical leader.
• Administer first aid, CPR, wound care, bleeding control, immobilization, and breathing support as assigned.
• Safely operate emergency vehicles in accordance with hospital policy and traffic laws.
• Perform shift start checks on vehicle and equipment; maintain readiness and compliance.
