Job summary

Acadian Ambulance Service in Lake Charles, LA is seeking an EMT-Basic to provide pre-hospital basic life support care and transportation to the sick and injured according to local and state standards.

The role requires EMT-Basic certification, CPR, and a valid Louisiana driver's license. You will perform patient assessments, document runs, operate the ambulance safely, and follow protocols to ensure timely, quality care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• National and/or State EMT-Basic certification required.
• Current CPR certification per AHA guidelines.
• Valid Louisiana Class D driver license required.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Conducts a careful examination of the patient for signs and symptoms of illness/injury and assists other medical personnel as necessary.
• Administers prompt and efficient basic life support care within the limits of licensure or certification and in accordance with approved protocols prior to and during transport.
• Provides careful handling of the patient to and from the ambulance.
• Provides a safe and efficient transport of the patient in the ambulance to the medical facility.
• Transfers patient and patient care information to the receiving personnel at the destination.
• Documents all aspects of patient condition and treatment on EMS run reports; records non-medical patient information as required.
• Conducts regular unit inventory and equipment testing to ensure equipment is present and functional.
• After transport, completes duties to return ambulance and equipment to service.
• Familiar with ambulance basic life support equipment and proper use at all times.
• Reports repairs to maintenance and supervisors as required.
• Assists with preceptor duties for new employees or EMT-Basic students if directed.
• Follows all driving guidelines to ensure safety of occupants and others.
• Complies with FCC regulations when communicating via electronic communications equipment.
• Attends mandatory meetings and completes shift duties.
• Orders supplies to replenish inventories.
• Cleans and maintains ambulance as required.
• Completes company reports and logs.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Education
