Job summary

UMC Health System is seeking an Emergency Medicine Technician to join our EMS unit on 12-hour shifts, responding to emergency and non-emergency calls and delivering patient care on scene and en route to the hospital.

Requirements include High School Diploma or GED, Texas EMT-B or AEMT certification, BLS, and a Class C driver license with clean record. EMT-P is required within 24 months. English fluency needed; CPR instruction will be part of the role.

Qualifications

  • Texas EMT-B or AEMT certification in good standing.
  • BLS: Basic Life Support certification.
  • Class C driver license with clean record in prior 10 years.
  • EMT-P required within 24 months of joining the role.

Responsibilities

  • Instructs first responders and the public on CPR and emergency care curriculums.
  • Operates response vehicles in emergency and non-emergency traffic modes.
  • Evaluates scenes and provides medical care on scene and en route to hospital.
  • Delivers patients to hospitals and documents activities.
  • Maintains EMS vehicles and equipment and performs maintenance.

Job Summary

The Emergency Medicine Technician serves as a crew member on the EMS unit responding to emergency and non-emergency calls for service. Reports to: Supervisor, EMS

Job Specific Responsibilities
  • Instructs first responders and the public on CPR and emergency care curriculums
  • Operates response vehicles in emergency and non-emergency traffic modes
  • Evaluates scenes and responds to conditions as per policies and protocols; assesses patient and provides medical care on the scene and in route to the hospital
  • Delivers patients to hospitals; documents activities, including patient care, via written and electronic media
  • Maintains EMS vehicles and equipment; performs routine maintenance and cleaning at EMS facilities
  • Performs other related duties and responsibilities related to Emergency Medicine Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED Required Licensures/Certifications/Registrations
  • Possess Texas EMT-B or AEMT certification in good standing with Texas Department of Safety Health Systems
  • BLS: Basic Life Skills certification by The American Heart Association
  • Class C driver license with no DWI convictions in the prior 10 years
  • EMT-P required within 24 months of being in the role
Skills and Abilities
  • Practical knowledge of medicolegal aspects of pre-hospital patient care is essential
  • Basic medical terminology and pre-hospital patient care skills
  • Effective communicator, both verbally and in writing; Must speak English fluently
  • Knowledge of the Lubbock geographical areas or the ability to effectively read GPS coordinates
Interaction with Other Departments and Other Relationships

This position will interact with patients, their family members, health care providers, members of public safety and law enforcement personnel, students, volunteers, and fellow employees

Physical Capabilities

Frequently exerts a medium amount of force to lift, carry, push, pull and move patients or objects. Frequently work involves standing, walking, bending, stooping, crouching and kneeling. Occasionally work involves sitting, running, climbing stairs, climbing ladders and crawling.

Environmental/Working Conditions

Emergency Medical Services provides crew quarters which are well lighted and ventilated. This position is subject to adverse weather and working conditions. The paramedic is frequently exposed to blood, and other infectious agents. Occasionally work involves the paramedic to be outdoors, in confined spaces, heights, underground, wet, and dry environment with a wide range of temperatures. Frequently work involves a noisy environment, and unusual lighting.
