Job summary

ScionHealth in Texas is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to provide pre-hospital emergency medical care and patient transport in accordance with protocols and regulatory requirements. You will work as part of a team to deliver timely, compassionate care to diverse patients and maintain readiness of equipment and vehicles.

The role requires strong communication, ability to work in high-pressure environments, adherence to safety and infection control, and documentation in EMRs.

Qualifications

• Must have EMT certification and BLS credentials.
• High school diploma or equivalent required; EMT program completed.
• One year of pre-hospital emergency care experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Respond to emergency calls and provide BLS care per protocol.
• Assess patient condition and determine appropriate treatment.
• Assist in lifting, moving, and transporting patients by ambulance.
• Communicate with dispatch, ER staff, and families.
• Operate and maintain medical equipment and EMRs.
• Maintain vehicle and equipment readiness; supports transport team.
• Participate in quality improvement and continuing education.
• Follow safety and infection prevention protocols.

Job Summary

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for providing pre-hospital emergency medical care and transportation for the sick and injured in accordance with established protocols and regulatory requirements. Working as part of a team, the EMT ensures timely, compassionate, and efficient care to patients in a variety of emergency and non-emergency situations. The EMT maintains equipment and vehicles, documents services provided, and supports other clinical and operational duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

• Responds to emergency calls and provides basic life support in line with EMT scope of practice
• Assesses patient condition, determines nature of illness or injury, and provides appropriate treatment
• Assists in lifting, moving, and transporting patients safely via ambulance or other approved methods
• Communicates effectively with dispatch, emergency departments, physicians, and family members
• Operates and maintains medical equipment including oxygen, suction units, stretchers, and monitors
• Documents all patient care activities accurately in accordance with department and regulatory standards
• Maintains cleanliness, readiness, and inventory of emergency response vehicles and equipment
• Supports emergency room or hospital transport team functions as needed
• Participates in quality improvement activities and continuing education requirements
• Follows safety and infection prevention protocols in all patient care activities

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

• Strong interpersonal and communication skills under pressure
• Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergent and unpredictable environments
• Proficiency in documentation and use of electronic medical records (EMRs)

Qualifications

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Completion of an accredited EMT program

Licenses/Certifications

• Current EMT certification in the state of practice required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Valid driver’s license and driving record that meets company standards (if driving responsibilities are included)

Experience

• One (1) year of experience in pre-hospital emergency care preferred
