ScionHealth in Palestine, TX is seeking an Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) to deliver pre-hospital care and transportation in accordance with established protocols and regulatory requirements. You will work as part of a team to provide timely, compassionate care and to maintain equipment and documentation.

The role requires a high school diploma or equivalent and completion of an accredited EMT program, with current EMT certification in the state and BLS; ACLS preferred.

Job Summary

The Emergency Medical Technician (EMT) is responsible for providing pre-hospital emergency medical care and transportation for the sick and injured in accordance with established protocols and regulatory requirements. Working as part of a team, the EMT ensures timely, compassionate, and efficient care to patients in a variety of emergency and non-emergency situations. The EMT maintains equipment and vehicles, documents services provided, and supports other clinical and operational duties as assigned.

Essential Functions

• Responds to emergency calls and provides basic life support in line with EMT scope of practice
• Assesses patient condition, determines nature of illness or injury, and provides appropriate treatment
• Assists in lifting, moving, and transporting patients safely via ambulance or other approved methods
• Communicates effectively with dispatch, emergency departments, physicians, and family members
• Operates and maintains medical equipment including oxygen, suction units, stretchers, and monitors
• Documents all patient care activities accurately in accordance with department and regulatory standards
• Maintains cleanliness, readiness, and inventory of emergency response vehicles and equipment
• Supports emergency room or hospital transport team functions as needed
• Participates in quality improvement activities and continuing education requirements
• Follows safety and infection prevention protocols in all patient care activities

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities/Expectations

• Knowledge of EMT scope of practice and emergency care procedures
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills under pressure
• Ability to respond quickly and effectively in emergent and unpredictable environments
• Proficiency in documentation and use of electronic medical records (EMRs)
• Physical strength and stamina to lift patients and operate heavy equipment
• Commitment to patient confidentiality, professionalism, and team collaboration
• Must be able to work varied shifts, including nights, weekends, and holidays

Education

• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Completion of an accredited EMT program

Licenses/Certifications

• Current EMT certification in the state of practice required
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification required
• Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) preferred
• Valid driver's license and driving record that meets company standards (if driving responsibilities are included)

Experience

• One (1) year of experience in pre-hospital emergency care preferred
