Job summary

MercyOne Des Moines Ambulance is seeking a Full-time EMT-B to join our responsive team. This role involves a 12 Hour Day Shift, with responsibilities across patient assessment, care planning, and treatment per protocols.

You will prepare and maintain equipment and ensure readiness for every mission. The candidate should have an Iowa EMT-B certification, a valid driver’s license, and Basic Life Support (BLS) within 3 months of hire.

Qualifications

• EMT-B certification in the State of Iowa.
• High school diploma or equivalent.
• 1 year EMT-B direct patient care experience preferred.
• Valid driver’s license and eligibility to drive per Iowa law.
• Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 3 months of hire.
• Mandatory Reporter abuse training completed within 3 months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assess patients and document findings in the patient record.
• Prioritize patient needs and develop a care plan.
• Implement interventions per protocols and document response to treatment.
• Provide ongoing evaluation and adjust the treatment plan as needed.
• Prepare equipment, stock supplies, and restock/clean unit after each mission.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Ability to assess patients with medical conditions with findings reflected in the patient record.

• Prioritizes and anticipates patients’ needs and develops a plan of care.

• Implements interventions consistent with protocols and documents response to treatment.

• Provides ongoing evaluation, altering the treatment plan as needed. Documents findings and interventions.

• Prepares equipment and supplies. Checks medical equipment and supplies on a daily basis. Restocks and cleans unit after each mission.

MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:

• High school diploma preferred or high school equivalency.

• Certified as an EMT in the State of Iowa.

• One year recent experience functioning as an EMT-B providing direct patient care preferred.

• Valid driver’s/Chauffeurs License required. Must meet Mercy’s Motor Vehicle Safety Standards, be at least 18 years of age, and be eligible to drive per Iowa state law.

• Basic Life Support certified within three months of hire. Acceptable credentialing bodies and certifications include American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Healthcare Providers.

• Proof of completion of Mandatory Reporter abuse training specific to population served within 3 months of hire.
