Job summary

Lenoir Community College in North Carolina seeks a part-time EMS Skills Instructor to deliver quality classroom and lab instruction in alignment with EMS standards and program guidelines.

The role requires current EMS credentials or licensed medical status, EMS provider experience, and the ability to teach psychomotor skills. Prior teaching experience is preferred and the instructor will collaborate with the program administration to support student learning.

Qualifications

  • Active, unrestricted EMS credential at EMT/AEMT/Paramedic level or current, unrestricted credential/license as RN/PA-C/NP/MD required.
  • Experience as an EMS provider; emergency medicine setting experience; or related medical setting appreciated.
  • Previous teaching experience at high school, community college, or university with psychomotor instruction preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Provide classroom and lab instruction as assigned by course lead instructor or program administrator.
  • Assist with class/lab setup and cleanup as assigned.
  • Assist with student evaluation and assessment as assigned.
  • Assist students in proper use and care of lab training equipment.
  • Promote professionalism and EMS culture during interactions inside and outside the classroom.
  • Other duties as assigned by the course lead instructor or program administrator.

Job description

The EMS Skills Instructor will provide quality instruction in the subject matter assigned by the Director of EMS or programs administration and in accordance with programmatic, NCOEMS, and CAAHEP/CoAEMSP guidelines and standards.

  • Active, unrestricted NCOEMS credential at EMT, AEMT, or Paramedic level; or current, unrestricted credential/license as RN, PA-C, NP, or MD required
  • Experience in the medical profession which must include experience as an EMS provider; experience in the emergency medicine setting; or experience in a medical setting closely related to the subject matter being taught
  • Previous teaching experience at a high school, community college, or university with experience as a psychomotor skills instructor is preferred
Working Conditions
  • Typical classroom teaching environment
  • Frequent standing for 6 to 8 hours per day, withstanding frequent changes in temperature
  • Frequent bending, stooping, reaching, crouching, kneeling, pushing, and pulling
  • Frequent lifting and carrying items up to 150 lbs., with or without assistance
  • Frequent travel between buildings on campus and infrequent travel to other campuses
  • Frequent listening to and talking with students and other faculty and staff members
  • Infrequent sitting at a desk or workstation using a telephone, computer, keyboard, and mouse

The duties of the EMS Skills Instructor (Part-time) includes, but are not limited to:

  • Provide classroom and lab instruction as assigned by the course lead instructor or program administrator
  • Assist with class/lab session setup and clean-up as assigned by the course lead instructor or program administrator
  • Assist with student evaluation and assessment as assigned by the course lead instructor or program administrator
  • Assist students in proper use and care of lab training equipment
  • As part of the EMS instructional team, promote a culture of professionalism and respect consistent with the EMS profession during interactions inside and outside of the classroom
  • Other duties as assigned by the course lead instructor or program administrator
