Brown University is seeking an EMS Shift Supervisor responsible for both direct patient care and managing shift operations. This role includes overseeing eligible BLS student EMT crews and mentoring students as adjunct faculty. Ideal candidates should have substantial emergency response experience in Rhode Island and relevant certifications.
Responsibilities include ensuring safe vehicle operations, supporting training and onboarding, and conducting educational activities related to EMT licensure and recertification. The position requires strong leadership skills and the ability to work autonomously.
The EMS Shift Supervisor serves in both a direct patient care and shift management capacity. During assigned shifts, the supervisor oversees or partners in patient care according to scope of practice and manages all shift operations, including safe vehicle operations and appropriate use of EMS equipment and supplies. The supervisor also oversees the autonomous BLS operations of designated eligible BLS student EMT crews responding to patients in the ambulance and serves as the point of contact for all BEMS professional workflow on appointed shifts. As adjunct faculty for the EMS Prehospital Education Programs, the supervisor mentors and educates students and EMS staff, supporting EMT onboarding, conducting driver education, and facilitating training related to EMT licensure, recertification, and continuing medical education requirements.
