Job summary

University of Virginia is seeking an EMS Physician to join the Division of EMS within the Department of Emergency Medicine. This primarily clinical role (0.85 FTE) includes 0.15 FTE for EMS program development and academic work, medical oversight, and protocol development to strengthen the prehospital-to-hospital continuum.

The candidate will help train the EMS Fellowship, engage in EMS-focused research, and collaborate with UVA's data science and engineering communities to advance digital

Qualifications

• MD or DO (or equivalent) degree.
• Board certification in Emergency Medicine (ABEM or AOBEM).
• Board certification in Emergency Medical Services (ABEM or AOBEM).
• Eligibility for an unrestricted medical license in Virginia.
• At least 3 years of experience in EMS system oversight.
• Interest in EMS research and scholarship, with mentorship and support.
• Strong leadership, organizational, and communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality clinical care in the Emergency Department and oversee residents and medical students.
• Collaborate with regional EMS agencies to standardize care and ensure seamless prehospital to hospital transitions.
• Support continuous improvement in prehospital quality, safety, and patient outcomes; participate in EMS medical oversight as assigned.
• Serve as core faculty for the EMS Fellowship and contribute to the EMS research program.
• Coach and mentor EMS fellows, residents, and medical students; engage in education and scholarly projects.
• Collaborate with UVA's research ecosystem (Link Lab, CAM Analytics, School of Data Science, School of Engineering) on data-driven EMS initiatives.
