Job summary

University of Virginia's Division of EMS within the Department of Emergency Medicine invites applications for an EMS Physician to join our clinical faculty with a focus on research. The position is primarily clinical (0.85 FTE) with 0.15 FTE devoted to EMS program development and academic work, including medical oversight and quality improvement for regional EMS agencies.

You will train EMS clinicians, oversee prehospital-to-hospital care, and collaborate with UVA’s data science and analytics

Qualifications

• MD or DO degree required.
• Board certification in Emergency Medicine.
• Board certification in Emergency Medical Services.
• Eligibility for an unrestricted medical license in Virginia.
• At least 3 years EMS system oversight experience.
• Interest in EMS research and clinician-investigator development with departmental mentorship.
• Excellence in clinical care and education with scholarship commitment.
• Strong leadership, organizational, interpersonal, and written and verbal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Provide high-quality emergency medicine care and supervise residents.
• Oversee clinical shifts for residents and medical students.
• Partner with regional EMS to standardize EMS care across prehospital to hospital.
• Support continuous improvement in EMS quality, safety, and outcomes.
• Lead EMS research, education, and scholarly projects.
• Collaborate with UVA data science and analytics groups on research.
• Represent the Division in regional, state, and national EMS organizations.
• Participate in EMS-focused research and pursue funding opportunities.
• Mentor EMS fellows, residents, and students in research methods.
