Job summary

Southwest Virginia Community College is seeking an EMS Hourly Instructor to deliver didactic and practical EMS training across EMT to Paramedic levels. The role requires managing classrooms, assessments, and course content in line with EMS education standards.

Responsibilities include conducting cognitive and psychomotor evaluations and adapting lessons for different learner needs. Evening/weekend hours may be required; travel may occur as needed.

  • Must be able to pass a criminal background screening.

Job description

EMS Hourly Instructor

Working Title: EMS Hourly Instructor – Role Code 29112‑SW. Position Number: 294W0603. Agency: Southwest Virginia Community College, Division: Southwest Virginia Community College (Div). Work Location: Tazewell - 185. Pay Band: 04. Pay Range: $20.63 – $35 per hour. Employment Type: Part‑time, up to 29 hours per week, with possible evening and weekend hours. Telework: Options may change based on business needs. Bilingual requirements: None specified.

Responsibilities

Deliver didactic and practical skill sessions for EMS courses at all levels (EMT, AEMT, Paramedic) in accordance with National EMS Education Standards. Conduct cognitive, psychomotor, and effective assessments and manage classroom activities related to EMS education. May be required to perform other duties as assigned and to assist agency or state government during emergency declarations.

Additional Considerations
  • At least one year of Basic and Advanced life support level EMS teaching experience
  • AHA Instructor Certifications (BLS, ACLS, PALS)
  • At least two years of previous advanced life support level experience as a pre‑hospital EMS provider
  • International Trauma Life Support (ITLS) or Pre‑Hospital Trauma Life Support (PHTLS) Provider certification
  • Associate’s Degree with demonstrated competency in the teaching field
  • Current National Registry Paramedic Certification
  • Current Virginia Office of EMS Education Coordinator certification

Some travel may be required.
