Job summary

UNC Health Nash is seeking a Community Paramedic to deliver primary care and/or advanced life support, including medical evaluation, treatment and stabilization to reduce morbidity and avoidable rehospitalizations in Nash County and surrounding areas in North Carolina.

The role emphasizes in-home and on-site visits, collaboration with other health professionals, and broadened access to primary care, disease management, prevention, and wellness services in underserved populations.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Paramedic certification with NC Office of EMS.
• BCLS, ACLS within 1 year, CPI within 1 year, ASLS within 1 year, NIHSS required.

Responsibilities

• Provide primary care and/or advanced life support.
• Evaluate, treat, and stabilize chronically ill and injured.
• Collaborate with health professionals to expand access to care in the service area.
• Conduct in-home and on-site visits; perform assessments and interventions as needed.
• Support community health, disease management, prevention and wellness initiatives.

Summary

The EMS Community Paramedic provides primary care and/or advanced life support, including medical evaluation, treatment, and stabilization of the chronically ill and injured with the goal of reducing morbidity and avoidable rehospitalizations for our community members.

Responsibilities

The Community Paramedic supports existing health services; provides integrated health services in partnership with other health professionals; extends access to health services delivery in underserved and general populations, including primary care, public health, disease management, prevention and wellness, mental health, and dental health; and performs other duties as required. Daily operations include in-home, in-person visits, assessments, and other interventions as needed. Successful candidates will be team oriented, collaborative in their approach to healthcare, and community minded.

Education Requirements

• High school graduate or GED.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

• Current certification as a Paramedic with the NC Office of Emergency Medical Services.
• Current BCLS certification.
• ACLS certification is required within 1 year of hire and must be kept current.
• CPI certification is required within 1 year of hire and must be kept current.
• ASLS certification is required within 1 year of hire and must be kept current.
• NIHSS certification.

Professional Experience Requirements

• 2 years of Paramedic experience is required.
• Supervisory/management development course work, training, or experience preferred.
