UNC Health in Eden, NC is seeking a Paramedic to join the Emergency Department clinical team. You will work under RN/physician supervision to provide age-appropriate care, following approved standards and the NC OEMS scope of practice.

Responsibilities include rapid patient evaluation, triage, data collection, IV starts, and patient advocacy. This is an onsite, full-time daytime role with a competitive hourly pay range.

Qualifications

• Must hold OEMS approved paramedic training and NC paramedic certification.
• Six months of pre-hospital paramedic experience.
• Certification in BLS, ACLS, and PALS.

Responsabilités

• Take directions from nurse, physician, or AP provider to apply prescribed therapies within scope of practice.
• Provide rapid evaluation and communicate patient needs to the care team.
• Identify clinical priorities and initiate actions to improve patient outcomes.
• Maintain a safe, respectful environment with patient privacy and professional behavior.
• Act as a patient advocate and promote information sharing.
• Use triage skills to prioritize ED patients.
• Perform data collection, prep for exam, and communicate findings to nursing staff.
• Assist with blood draws and IV starts as ordered.
• Transports patients as needed; follow licensure scope (no narcotics or intubations).
• Other duties as assigned by management.

Summary

Works as a member of the Emergency Department clinical team. The paramedic collaborates with a multi-disciplinary team to provide appropriate age specific care in compliance with standards of practice in the hospital or urgent care setting. The paramedic will provide care to patients under the supervision of the Registered Nurse and Physician. A physician will provide oversight for clinical practice. Skill set approved by NC-OEMS will be utilized.

Responsibilities

• Takes directions from nurse, physician and/or advanced practice provider to implement prescribed therapies within scope of practice.
• Provides rapid evaluation of presenting patients and communicates to the care team the patient; 1⁄2s required needs/care.
• Identifies clinical priorities and initiates action to improve patient outcomes based on these priorities.
• Maintains a safe, therapeutic and healing environment through ensuring patient privacy and responsive, respectful, accepting and professional behavior.
• Acts as a patient advocate.
• Communicates effectively to promote sharing of information.
• Utilizes triage skills to assist in prioritizing of incoming ED patients.
• Performs basic data collection, prepares patient for exam and communicates findings to primary and/or charge nurse.
• Facilitates blood draw and starting of IVs based on orders and in coordination with primary/triage nurse.
• Works to their paramedic license; does not give narcotics or perform intubations.
• Transports patients via wheelchair or stretcher as needed throughout facility.
• Performs other duties as assigned by management.

Education Requirements

• High school diploma or equivalent.

Licensure/Certification Requirements

• Completion of OEMS approved training & competency program for Paramedic and current North Carolina Paramedic Certification required.
• Certification in BLS, ACLS, PALS.

Professional Experience Requirements

• Six months experience in a pre-hospital environment as a Paramedic required.

Knowledge/Skills/and Abilities Requirements

• Incumbent must demonstrate the ability to understand, communicate and react effectively and appropriately to the unique needs of neonatal, pediatric, adolescent, adult and geriatric patients. Incumbent must demonstrate clinical competence per the position’s Skills Checklist before being allowed to perform independently.
