Job summary

Howard Community College seeks qualified EMS adjunct faculty to support Emergency Medical Responder, EMT, and Paramedic education through classroom, lab, simulation, and skills-based instruction.

The successful candidate will bring current clinical knowledge, judgment, and an engaging approach to adult learning while collaborating with full-time faculty and the EMS Program Director to prepare students for Maryland and national certification.

Qualifications

  • Must hold current Maryland EMT certification or National Registry EMT in good standing.
  • Two years of recent field/clinical experience at relevant level.
  • Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (Provider) certification.
  • Ability to work with adult learners and follow program standards.
  • Maintain licenses, certifications, and meet ongoing requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Teach EMS content in various formats (classroom, lab, simulation, online, remote, hybrid) per course outcomes.
  • Demonstrate and evaluate psychomotor skills per Maryland/NAEMSE standards.
  • Facilitate realistic patient-care scenarios focusing on clinical reasoning and safety.
  • Assess student performance using approved evaluation tools and provide timely feedback.
  • Maintain attendance, skills verification, and grade records; meet deadlines.
  • Utilize Canvas and other tech to communicate and manage course materials.
  • Support an inclusive and safe learning environment for diverse students.
  • Collaborate with EMS program leadership and faculty for course prep and improvement.
  • Follow all safety, infection-control, and college policies.
