Job summary

Universal Health Services’ Newport News Behavioral Health Center is seeking a records compliance professional to manage medical records, ensure regulatory alignment, and oversee EMR documentation for adolescent behavioral health care in a structured residential setting.

The role focuses on audits, information release processing, and maintaining organized documentation to support licensing and DMAS requirements.

Qualifications

  • A Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or Business field is preferred.
  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Knowledge of Virginia Medicaid billing and previous experience in medical records preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Performs weekly audits on 100% of all open charts concurrently to ensure that the medical records documentation meet the requirements of the regulatory agencies.
  • Scan confidential medical forms and attach supporting documentation to patient records.
  • Process Release of Information (ROI) requests in accordance with applicable confidentiality and compliance requirements.
  • Create and organize medical record storage folders.
  • Maintain and manage the department filing system.
  • Collect, scan, and upload documentation into the electronic medical record (EMR) system.
  • Develop and implement a system to evaluate whether education and in-service training initiatives are improving staff documentation practices.
  • Gather required patient documentation and use charting systems to accurately scan materials into the appropriate patient record.

Newport News Behavioral Health Centeris a 108 bed intensive and highly structured residential treatment for psychiatric and behavioral health needs of adolescent males and females ages 11-18yrs. Newport News has an on-site certified school, therapists, and vocational programming. Newport News, VA is a beautiful seaside city, rich in maritime history and conveniently located to DC and other major North Eastern cities.

Job Summary

Responsible for ensuring the content of the clinical notes pertaining to patient care, treatment, and services is in compliance with all licensing and DMAS regulations.
