Sonja Biggs Educational Services Inc in Tehachapi, CA is seeking a compassionate Orientation & Mobility (O&M) Specialist to help students with visual impairments gain independence. You will assess and teach O&M skills, including cane use and safe travel in school, home, and community settings.

The role involves collaboration with families, TVIs, and educational teams, participation in IEP meetings, and ongoing progress tracking.

Qualifications

• California Credential in Orientation & Mobility (O&M) is required.
• Experience with students who have visual impairments is preferred.

Responsabilités

• Assess students’ O&M, sensory, and independent travel skills.
• Develop and deliver individualized O&M instruction aligned with IEP goals.
• Teach cane skills, spatial awareness, environmental concepts, street-crossing, traffic awareness, and transportation use.
• Support independence, self-advocacy, community access, and transition planning.
• Collaborate with students, families, and educational teams.
• Participate in IEP meetings, progress reviews, and transition planning.
• Monitor progress and maintain documentation; submit service logs within three days.
