Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or Master’s degree in special education preferred.
• Commitment to ensuring academic success for all students.
• Experience working in an urban setting, preferred.
• Experience working with the social/emotional/academic needs of children.
• Knowledge of special education law as it relates to the IEP process and FAPE.
• Ability to read, interpret, and apply student performance data to instructional planning and execution.
• DESE License: Students with and without Disabilities, 1-6 and SEI Endorsement.
• Passing the Massachusetts Tests for Educator Licensure (MTEL), including Communications and Literacy Skills and subject matter knowledge.

Responsibilities

• Assist special education students with designed instruction to access education.
• Participate in the pre-referral process of special education.
• Prepare individualized education plans.
• Collaborate with school-based related service providers.
• Collaborate with team on curriculum and student needs.
• Assess educational needs using standardized tools and other informal assessments.
• Maintain records of reevaluation periods and parent communication.
• Integrate technology into instruction.
• Provide differentiated instruction to students, as needed.
• Implement school, district and department policies.
• Create and maintain professional communication with parents of special education students.
• Communicate with parents regarding student progress.
• Additional duties may be assigned without additional compensation or stipend.
