Job summary

Wake County Public School System is seeking a dedicated Special Education professional to support students with disabilities through IEP development and provision of specially designed instruction in a collaborative school setting.

The role emphasizes implementing instructional strategies, progress monitoring, and maintaining both student safety and confidential records in accordance with FERPA and district policies, while engaging families and collaborating with staff.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree from a regionally accredited college/university.
• Hold or be eligible for a North Carolina Professional Educator's License in an Exceptional Children's teaching area (not including licenses in Academically or Intellectually Gifted).
• Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator's license according to the State of NC requirements.
• First Aid and CPR certifications (preferred).
• Crisis Prevention and Intervention (CPI) certification (preferred).

Responsibilities

• Develops IEPs for students with disabilities; updates IEPs as needed.
• Implements instructional strategies and progress monitoring tools for specially designed instruction.
• Assists students in completing curriculum tasks and achieving IEP goals.
• Employs varied teaching methods, accommodations and materials to meet student needs.
• Monitors student behavior, maintains classroom discipline, and teaches behavioral strategies.
• Evaluates student work and coordinates progress/report card grades.
• Attends IEP meetings as a collaborative team member.
• Keeps abreast of trends and best practices through professional development.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.
