Job summary

Bridgeport Public Schools is seeking an Occupational Therapist (OTR/L) to provide school-based OT services for students under IEPs. The role involves scheduling therapy, developing goals, and coordinating with teachers and families to support educational outcomes.

The position requires CT licensure as an OT, NBCOT preferred, and the ability to travel between multiple school locations during the day. 186-day contract with annual start salary of $69,992.88.

Qualifications

• Licensed and registered as an occupational therapist (OTR/L) in Connecticut; NBCOT certification preferred.
• Superior organizational, oral and written communication skills.
• Experience in development and presentation of professional development initiatives.
• Ability to effectively communicate and collaborate with staff, students, parents and community representatives.
• Experience supervising certified occupational therapy assistants (COTA/L).
• Demonstrated commitment to department “team” concept and the success of the organization.
• Ability to meet deadlines as required.
• Demonstrated ability to provide good attendance and punctuality on a daily basis.
• Ability to travel to and service students at more than one school location during the workday.
• Knowledge of a Special Education (IEP/504) policies and procedures preferred.
• Computer literate.

Responsibilities

• Provides therapeutically appropriate individual and group OT services for children with medical and developmental disabilities as per IEPs.
• Schedules and coordinates therapy sessions to implement programs aligned with educational goals.
• Provides classroom strategies for teachers, parents, and paraprofessionals for students requiring OT services.
• Selects activities to help students learn life-management skills within student capabilities.
• Conducts OT evaluations to determine need for school-based services.
• Evaluates progress and prepares detailed progress reports as needed.
• Develops and implements IEP goals according to OT best practices.
• Maintains communication with team members to represent OT needs and contribute to services.
• Consults with other district personnel to coordinate OT with other therapies.
• Consults with PPT members when making recommendations for treatment and supports.
• Provides training and supervision for school district personnel in therapy techniques.
• Attends Assistive Technology, Planning and Placement, and family training meetings.
• Selects and recommends assistive tech equipment and accommodations to enhance participation.
• Keeps current on OT best practices and research.
• Supervises COTA/L and OT students as required.
• Performs other duties as assigned by district administration.
