Job summary

Derby Public Schools is seeking a Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)/Paraeducator at Derby Middle School to join the RISE Room team. You will provide direct behavioral and academic support to students, implement individualized interventions, and help students develop self-regulation and social-emotional skills within a structured, supportive program.

Qualifications

• Current RBT certification (or eligibility to obtain)
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in education, psychology, behavioral science, special education, social work, or completion of the ParaPro Exam
• Experience working with children/adolescents with behavioral, academic, developmental, or social-emotional needs
• Ability to pass background checks and district employment requirements
• Participation in crisis prevention, safety, and behavioral support training
• Previous school-based experience
• Experience implementing behavior intervention plans or strategies
• Experience with middle school students
• Familiarity with IEPs, MTSS, PBIS, SEL, or trauma-responsive practices
• Experience using behavioral data to monitor student progress

Responsibilities

• Provide direct behavioral and academic support to students individually or in small groups
• Implement individualized behavioral interventions under supervision
• Support self-regulation, communication, and social-emotional skills
• Identify triggers and use replacement behaviors
• Reinforce positive behaviors and student progress
• Assist with transitions between classrooms and activities
• Provide academic assistance and reinforce instructional strategies
• Help students develop independence
• Collect and document behavioral and academic data
• Support implementation of IEP goals and behavior plans
• Maintain a calm, structured RISE Room environment
• Respond to student dysregulation per district protocols
• Facilitate return to instruction after incidents
• Collaborate with teachers to generalize skills
• Participate as part of the educational support team
• Maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
• Build positive relationships with students
