Job summary

Manassas Park City Schools is seeking an Instructional Assistant for the Pre-K Adaptive Special Education Curriculum at Cougar Elementary, reporting to a Special Education Teacher and Building Principal. The role supports academic and social-emotional growth of students with special needs, under supervision, providing instructional aid and classroom management.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalency required.
• Previous experience working with groups of children desired.
• Ability to follow written and oral instructions and directions in carrying out tasks and procedures related to instructional and behavioral plans.
• Ability to assist teachers with instructional activities and classroom management.
• Must possess interpersonal communication skills and the professional and personal characteristics necessary for working with parents, students and school personnel.

Responsibilities

• Complies with all school laws, State Board of Education regulations, and all policies and regulations made by the School Board and Superintendent.
• Confers with teachers on a regular basis to assist in evaluating special education student progress and/or implementing IEP objectives.
• Implements academic instruction taught by a special education teacher for individuals or small groups and implements behavioral plans for students with behavior challenges.
• Supports students with daily personal care tasks such as toileting, feeding, and mobility assistance.
• Maintains instructional materials and student files/records and assists in preparing instructional materials.
• Assists teacher with maintenance of instructional materials, equipment and bulletin boards; supervises students in the absence of the classroom teacher.
