About DVS

The mission of the Department of Veterans’ Services (DVS) is to connect, mobilize, and empower New York City’s Veteran Community. DVS aims to foster purpose-driven lives for Service Members—past and present—as well as their caregivers, survivors, and families. The department provides essential services and programs focused on economic empowerment, housing security, benefits, health and wellness, and culture for approximately 200,000 Veterans in NYC.

About the Role: Employment Specialist

DVS seeks to hire an Employment Specialist who will assist the Military Affiliated Community in accessing meaningful employment across sectors including public, private, and government industries. The role involves guiding individuals toward suitable job placements based on their skills, experiences, and goals, and connecting them with workforce development programs, training, and resources to support career transitions and growth.

The Employment Specialist will work closely with the Director of Veteran Transition and her team on efforts including but not limited to:

  • Helping military-affiliated individuals find and secure employment opportunities.
  • Conducting job searches, providing leads, and connecting clients with employers.
  • Supporting resume writing, cover letter development, and interview preparation.
  • Providing career counseling to assess skills, qualifications, and goals.
  • Advising on job market trends, wages, and opportunities.
  • Linking clients to workforce programs, training, certifications, and educational resources.
  • Recommending programs or workshops to enhance job readiness and career growth.
  • Maintaining records of client progress, applications, employment status, and outcomes.
  • Tracking and reporting on employment outcomes and program participation.
  • Assessing service effectiveness and suggesting improvements.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Baccalaureate degree and two years of community work experience related to the duties; or
  • High school diploma and six years of relevant community work experience; or
  • Equivalent education/experience, with at least one year of experience as described above.

This position is open to qualified persons with disabilities eligible for the 55-a Program. Employees may be eligible for federal and state loan forgiveness programs. Salary Range

$62,868.00 – $72,298.00
