Job summary

The North Carolina Department of Transportation is seeking an Employee Relations Consultant to advise managers and staff on performance, conduct, and disciplinary matters. You will review cases, provide policy guidance, conduct investigations, and support training on HR policies within the DMV division.

You will counsel employees, mediate disputes, draft disciplinary documents, and ensure actions comply with state laws and DOT policies, reporting to the Employee Relations Manager.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or related field with 4 years of HR experience or equivalent combination.
• Knowledge of state HR policies, employment law, and disciplinary actions.
• Ability to draft analytical, detailed disciplinary documents with strong writing skills.

Responsibilities

• Recommends appropriate employment actions to maintain a productive work environment.
• Interprets and implements state policies and procedures on disciplinary actions and grievances.
• Provides consultation to managers and employees on performance, conduct, and discipline issues; conducts investigations.
• Delivers training on HR policies and practices.
• Assists with preparing formal disciplinary actions and ensures proper documentation.
