Job summary

Sun Life U.S. is seeking an Employee Relations Consultant to coordinate day-to-day ER activities, support HRBPs, and ensure timely, confidential handling of employee relations matters across the organization.

The role emphasizes collaboration with Legal, Compliance, and leadership to triage issues, document case activity, and drive practical solutions that align with policy and law. A BA and 3–5 years HR experience are preferred.

Qualifications

• BA or equivalent degree, preferably in Human Resources or related field.
• 3-5 years progressive experience in HR, preferably in employee relations, or equivalent experience.
• Excellent knowledge of U.S employment legislation, trends & practices.
• Excellent planning, organization and time management skills, attention to detail, ability to handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written and interpersonal communication skills with ability to handle difficult conversations.

Responsibilities

• Serve as a first point of contact for routine employee relations inquiries; triage and escalate complex issues as needed.
• Assist with routine employee relations matters in support of senior staff.
• Manage interactive workplace accommodations process and leave of absence matters.
• Document and track case activity; respond to leader inquiries and escalate as appropriate.
• Ensure communications and documentation are clear, professional and accurate.
• Balance business needs with employee interests while mitigating risk and ensuring compliance with employment laws.
• Build partnerships with HR, Legal, Compliance and stakeholders to drive effective resolutions.
• Participate in HR/ER projects and contribute to process improvements.
