Summary:

The Employee Relations Specialist plays a crucial role in fostering a positive work environment by managing and resolving employee relation issues. The position involves handling employee complaints, conducting thorough investigations, and ensuring compliance with labor laws and company policies. The specialist acts as a mediator between employees and management, addressing grievances and facilitating conflict resolution. Additionally, they oversee disciplinary actions, manage the grievance process, and ensure that all actions are documented and compliant with union agreements and legal requirements.

Job Functions:

  • Preparing and presenting proposals and counter proposals during negotiation sessions.
  • Assist in mediating disputes between union members and management.
  • Managing the grievance process between the union and the company.
  • Accurately manage and process union timesheets, ensuring compliance with union agreements and company policies.
  • Handle worker’s compensation cases from initial report to resolution, including filing claims, coordinating with medical providers, and ensuring compliance with state and federal regulations.
  • Conduct thorough and impartial investigations into employee complaints, grievances, and incidents, documenting findings and making recommendations for resolution.
  • Manage disciplinary actions involving union employees, ensuring adherence to union agreements and company policies.
  • Manage the termination process for union employees, including conducting exit interviews and ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Specifications Required:

  • Ability to understand and interpret the collective bargaining agreement.
  • Ability to demonstrate professional communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Ability to be personally connected to others on the job and maintain a professional demeanor with a positive attitude.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Ability to give full attention to what others are saying, taking time to understand points, ask questions, and not interrupt.
  • Proficiency in timekeeping software.
  • Knowledge of worker's compensation laws and procedures.
  • Ability to handle sensitive information and confidential information with discretion.
  • Strong problem solving and conflict resolution skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.

Education & Experience:

  • Preferred bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration or related field.
  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Preferred experience in a union environment.
  • 2+ years’ experience in field or in a related area preferred.
