Job summary

Confidential Employer in Washington, DC is seeking a senior attorney to advise on tax-qualified retirement plans, including ERISA and IRC requirements, with a focus on complex regulatory matters.

You will partner with national clients, draft plan documents, provide regulatory guidance, and collaborate across practices in a hybrid work environment.

Applicants must be licensed to practice law in at least one U.S. state and have 3+ years of experience advising on retirement plans.

Qualifications

  • Active Bar license in any U.S. state.
  • 3+ years of legal experience with tax-qualified retirement plans.
  • Strong knowledge of ERISA and Internal Revenue Code requirements.
  • Experience with 401(k), profit-sharing, defined benefit, and/or cash balance plans.
  • Excellent legal research, analytical, drafting, and writing skills.
  • Strong communication and client relationship abilities.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities in a collaborative legal environment.

Responsibilities

  • Advise clients on the design, operation, and compliance of tax-qualified retirement plans.
  • Counsel clients on ERISA, Internal Revenue Code requirements, SECURE 2.0, and evolving regulatory developments.
  • Draft and update retirement plan documents, amendments, summary plan descriptions, and participant communications.
  • Conduct legal research and provide practical legal analysis for complex retirement plan matters.
  • Partner directly with clients to identify legal risks and develop effective compliance strategies.
  • Collaborate with attorneys across multiple practice areas to deliver comprehensive legal solutions.
  • Stay current on retirement plan legislation and regulatory guidance affecting clients.
  • Manage multiple sophisticated matters while delivering exceptional client service.
