Job description

Plenty of benefits analytics roles end at producing the report. This one starts there and keeps going — into the renewal negotiation, into the client meeting, and into building the team that does the work.

Brown & Brown's Portland Employee Benefits practice is hiring a Data & Analytics Team Lead. You'll run the D&A function for the department: setting direction alongside the Employee Benefits Leader, managing and developing the analysts on your team, and personally leading financial consulting for an assigned book of business. It's a role for someone who can move between a claims utilization model and a client conversation about why the renewal should look different than the carrier says it should.

Leading the team
  • Set annual goals and direction for the D&A function in partnership with the Employee Benefits Leader
  • Supervise day-to-day workload, performance, and customer assignments across the D&A team
  • Coach, train, and develop analysts, with feedback tied to measurable goals
  • Oversee financial reports and client deliverables produced by the team, and lead training on those deliverables
  • Serve as the escalation point for complex marketing and renewal questions across the department
Leading the financial work
  • Independently evaluate financial and utilization metrics for clients and lead financial consulting for an assigned book
  • Negotiate renewals and build alternative strategies, plan modeling, and cost reduction recommendations
  • Represent the financial strategy in client and prospective client meetings, including performing your own reporting and analysis in preparation
  • Support the sales team on new business strategy and prospect meetings
  • Act as liaison between Account Managers, Producers and Consultants, the Tech team, and carriers on renewal and marketing projects
  • Build and manage direct relationships with carrier partners
What we're looking for
  • A bachelor's degree plus three years in employee benefits administration, or a high school diploma plus five years of related experience. Other combinations of work and education will be considered.
  • Substantive knowledge of group health and welfare plan design, current legislation and regulation, underwriting principles, rating, pricing, and premium calculation
  • A current Life & Health insurance license for required states, or the ability to obtain one
  • Real Excel capability — this role is built on modeling and analysis, not on pulling standard reports
  • The ability to present complex or contested financial recommendations to clients, carriers, and senior leadership and hold up under questioningExperience coaching or supervising, or clear readiness to move into it
  • Familiarity with BenefitPoint or comparable benefits management platforms
  • Discretion with confidential client and plan information
Details
  • Full-time, exempt
  • Supervises a team of analysts within a roughly 20-person Employee Benefits department
  • Life & Health license required, maintained in required states

  • Health Benefits: Medical/Rx, Dental, Vision, Life Insurance, Disability Insurance
  • Financial Benefits: ESPP; 401k; Student Loan Assistance; Tuition Reimbursement
