Job summary

Bay Area Community Services in Oakland is hiring full-time Residential Counselors to help participants achieve self-sufficiency through milieu-based care, counseling, and crisis de-escalation. The role emphasizes whatever it takes interventions, wellness and recovery, and on-site support.

Two openings in Oakland with shifts Tue-Sat; qualifications include a High School Diploma and 4 years in mental health or social services; bilingual preferred; CA driver’s license required.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; 4 years of paid work in mental health/social services (1 year may be substituted).
• Associate or higher degree preferred.
• Bilingual in threshold language preferred; valid CA driver’s license and access to a vehicle.

Responsibilities

• Provide supportive counseling in a milieu environment to support wellness and recovery goals.
• Engage participants to implement active service and discharge plans; support independent living skills.
• Provide milieu treatment, crisis intervention, and crisis assessment as needed.
• Perform medication management per regulatory standards (support self-medication prompting or administration at licensed facilities).
• Maintain participant files and data in an electronic health record system.
• Foster community relations and coordinate with treatment providers for client care.
• Maintain a safe program environment; assist with meal prep, housekeeping, and property duties.
• Apply evidence-based practices including harm reduction and wraparound support.
• Attend supervision, staff meetings, and ongoing training.
