Job Summary:

The Emotional Support Technician works closely with students, teachers, and support staff to implement behavior intervention plans and promote positive behavioral and academic outcomes. The Emotional Support Technician provides one-on-one or small group support to students with diverse needs, including those who are emotionally challenged or have other developmental or behavioral challenges. This position involves working under the supervision of Special Education leadership.

Essential Functions:

  • Behavioral Interventions: Assist in implementing evidence-based behavior intervention plans (BIPs) designed by the program leaders to address student needs in classroom and non-classroom settings.
  • Data Collection: Accurately record and document student progress, behaviors, and other relevant data for analysis and reporting purposes.
  • Skill Acquisition: Support students in developing functional, academic, and social skills as outlined in individualized education programs (IEPs) or behavior plans.
  • Crisis Management: Respond appropriately to challenging behaviors using approved de-escalation and intervention techniques.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with teachers, counselors, therapists, and other school staff to create a supportive and inclusive learning environment.
  • Training and Compliance: Attend training sessions, meetings, and supervision as required to maintain certification and ensure compliance with school and state guidelines.
  • Confidentiality: Maintain student confidentiality in accordance with HIPAA, FERPA, and school policies.

Minimum Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Able to physically intervene and safely restrain students when necessary, following approved protocols and training
  • Ability to lift and move up to 75 pounds
  • Experience working with children or students with special needs
  • Pennsylvania Criminal Record Check Clearance
  • Pennsylvania Child Abuse Clearance
  • FBI Criminal Background Clearance

Demonstrated Knowledge of:

  • Policies and regulations necessary to answer work-related and general information
  • Using interpersonal skills with tact, patience and courtesy
  • Student Code of Conduct and PBIS

Demonstrated Ability to:

  • Assisting in implementing individualized behavior intervention plans with consistency and accuracy.
  • Understand and apply interventions and student support
  • Monitor, document, and analyze student progress using data collection tools.
  • Foster positive relationships with students, parents, and school staff to build trust and collaboration.
  • Apply de-escalation and crisis management techniques in challenging situations.
  • Adapt to diverse learning and behavioral needs in a dynamic school environment.
  • Maintain professionalism and confidentiality while working with sensitive student information.
  • Communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing, to convey observations and collaborate with team members.
  • Accept feedback and adjust practices to improve performance and student outcomes.
  • Work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team to meet school and student objectives.
  • Promote an inclusive and supportive environment that aligns with the school’s mission and values.
