Position Summary
The EMI Technician / Level II Inspector is responsible for performing Electromagnetic Inspection (EMI) and other Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) methods on drill pipe, tubing, casing, line pipe, pipelines, and other Oil Country Tubular Goods (OCTG). This position evaluates the integrity and condition of tubular products by identifying defects, corrosion, wear, wall loss, cracks, and mechanical damage while ensuring compliance with industry standards, customer specifications, and company quality requirements. The ideal candidate will possess strong technical knowledge of tubular inspection processes, maintain accurate documentation, operate inspection equipment safely and efficiently, and assist in training and mentoring entry-level technicians. This role requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, and operational excellence in both shop and field environments.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Perform EMI, MPI/MT, UT, VTI, and other applicable NDT inspections on drill pipe, tubing, casing, pipelines, and OCTG products.
- Operate, calibrate, maintain, and perform pre-operation checks on inspection equipment.
- Interpret inspection data and inspection signals to identify defects, corrosion, wear, wall loss, cracks, fatigue, and mechanical damage.
- Accurately classify pipe condition in accordance with company procedures, customer specifications, and industry standards.
- Verify pipe identification, measurements, and traceability throughout the inspection process.
- Complete inspection reports, evaluations, maintenance logs, and required documentation accurately and timely.
- Maintain inspection records and ensure documentation meets quality requirements.
- Sort, mark, segregate, and identify materials based on inspection results.
- Troubleshoot equipment issues and coordinate maintenance or repairs as needed.
- Ensure compliance with all company safety policies, customer requirements, and industry regulations.
- Communicate inspection findings and recommendations to customers, supervisors, and management.
- Train, mentor, and support Level I Technicians and other inspection personnel.
- Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Assist with yard operations and additional inspection services as required.
- Travel to customer locations and field sites when needed.
Qualifications
- High School Diploma or GED.
- EMI (Electromagnetic Inspection) Certification.
- MPI/MT (Magnetic Particle Inspection) Certification.
- VTI (Visual Thread Inspection) Certification.
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience performing tubular inspections within the oil and gas industry.
- Ability to read, interpret, and follow technical procedures, industry standards, and customer specifications.
- Computer proficiency and experience with inspection reporting systems.
- Strong commitment to safety and quality.
Preferred
- ASNT or related NDT certifications.
- Experience inspecting drill pipe, tubing, casing, line pipe, pipelines, and other OCTG products.
- Forklift Certification.
- Bilingual English/Spanish communication skills.
- Knowledge of pipeline integrity assessment programs.

Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, bend, kneel, stoop, and climb for extended periods.
- Ability to lift and carry up to 75 pounds.
- Ability to work around moving equipment, machinery, and heavy oilfield equipment.
- Ability to distinguish visual indicators and monitor inspection displays.
- Must be able to wear all required PPE at all times.
Work Environment
Combination of shop, pipe yard, and field environments. Exposure to varying weather conditions, dust, noise, machinery, and industrial hazards. Frequent interaction with customers, inspectors, and field personnel. Overtime, rotating schedules, weekend work, and occasional overnight travel may be required based on business needs.
