Job summary

Austin Regional Clinic in Austin, TX is seeking a skilled EEG/EMG Technologist to perform high-quality EMG and EEG testing under physician orders. You will ensure patient comfort, obtain required information, document procedures, and maintain equipment and QC.

Qualifications

PURPOSE

Under direction, performs high quality electromyographic (EMG) procedures for nerve conduction studies and electroencephalographic (EEG) testing. Carries out all duties while maintaining compliance and confidentiality and promoting the mission and philosophy of the organization.


ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS


  • Operates electromyography (EMG) equipment used in the diagnosis of muscle disease and denervation to determine the conduction of velocity and latency times of peripheral motor and sensory nerves and will assist physicians in performing additional more advanced EMG techniques utilized in specific neurological diseases.

  • Performs electroencephalographic (EEG) testing according to department policy, and with a focus on patient comfort and physician’s needs.

  • Obtains and documents required medical information.

  • Explains procedure, alleviates fears, and elicits cooperation.

  • Identifies and eliminates or reduces artifact contamination of the recording of the EEG and video.

  • Acquires, reviews, and presents selected data to the clinical neurophysiologist.

  • Follows proper protocol following the completion of the LTME procedure.

  • Explains procedures and preparation to patient and makes them as comfortable as possible.

  • Applies and fills electrodes.

  • Completes paperwork, including charge slips for EEG.

  • Performs all aspects of EEG/EMG recordings according to departmental policy and in a professional and personalized manner.

  • Responsible for working collaboratively with other members to assure the safe and accurate delivery of patient care.

  • Provides precise documentation on all recorded procedures.

  • Assumes responsibility for the safety, mental and physical comfort of patients while they are in the tech’s care.

  • Addresses problems of patients as they arise and escalates to physician or management if needed.

  • Performs procedures in a professional manner and according to physician's orders in the patient's chart.

  • Computes and records graphic data, analyzes and calculates results, and reports findings.

  • Cleans, adjusts and performs routine maintenance and repair on equipment to ensure proper functioning. Troubleshoots routine equipment problems.

  • Orders supplies when needed

  • Assumes responsibility for patient testing, quality control, and quality improvement.

  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices, and procedures within field.

  • Performs all aspects of patient care in an environment that optimizes patient safety and reduces the likelihood of medical/health care errors.

  • Provides precise documentation on all recorded procedures.

  • Adheres to all company policies, including but not limited to, OSHA, HIPAA, compliance and Code of Conduct.

  • Regular and dependable attendance.

  • Follows the core competencies set forth by the Company, which are available for review on ARC SharePoint.

QUALIFICATIONS

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

Required:


  • High school diploma or GED; and

  • One of the following:

    • Completion of EEG training program or

    • Two or more years of EEG experience; and



  • Familiarity with the International 10-20 system of EEG electrode placement; and

  • One of the following:

    • Successful completion of two-year college program in Neurodiagnostic Technology or

    • Associate’s degree in health sciences or related field or

    • Two or more years of EMG experience.




Preferred:


  • Experience working with epilepsy patients.


Certificate/License

Required

Certified by the American Association of Electromyography Technicians and current AHA approved Basic Life Support (BLS) Healthcare Provider Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) course completion card. Will be required to maintain current Electromyography Technicians and CPR certifications during employment.


Preferred

Registered by the American Board of Registration of EEG Technicians and Evoked Potential Technologists (ABRET).

  • Excellent computer and keyboarding skills, including familiarity with Windows.
