Job summary

DLA Piper is seeking a Patent Agent to join its Patent Development & Strategy practice. The position supports drafting and prosecuting patent applications across AI, software, and hardware technologies, collaborating with inventors and attorneys to shape IP strategy.

The role requires 2+ years of patent prosecution experience, USPTO registration, and a technical background in electrical engineering, computer science, or related fields. Hybrid work options are available.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of patent prosecution experience.
• Experience drafting and prosecuting U.S. and international patent applications.
• Experience with responses to Office Actions and patentability analyses.
• Prior law firm or in-house IP experience is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Draft and prosecute patent applications in electrical, computer, software, AI, and related fields.
• Collaborate with inventors and attorneys to develop patent protection strategies.
• Conduct prior art, patentability, and freedom-to-operate analyses.
• Support IP due diligence and portfolio management.
• Assist attorneys with client counseling and strategic patent matters.
