BluePearl Pet Hospital in Rockville, MD is seeking an experienced Emergency Veterinary Technician to join our skilled team. You will induce, monitor, and recover anesthesia, perform triage, radiography, and vocalize vital signs while supporting a high- stakes emergency environment.

Responsibilities include phlebotomy, IV catheter placement, feeding tube/central line care, and mentoring teammates. Competitive pay and extensive growth opportunities available.

Qualifications

• Licensed veterinary technician or eligible for VTNE certification.
• Ability to perform anesthesia induction, monitoring and recovery.
• Proficient in radiography and phlebotomy.

Responsibilities

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia and use anesthesia equipment.
• Triage emergencies and record vitals (temp, HR, RR, BP).
• Perform digital radiography with proper technique and patient positioning.
• Interpret vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes.
• Calculate meds and administer by appropriate routes.
• Place IV catheters and perform phlebotomy.
• Maintain feeding tubes and central lines as needed.
• Mentor and train co-workers with empathy.

Job description

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Rockville, MD is seeking an experienced Veterinary Technician to join our skilled Emergency team!

Pay: $24.50 - $49.00 / hour + competitive shift differentials

This pay band is dependent on experience and advancement through our competency assessment tool.

We offer competitive shift differential pay for eligible hours worked for nights and weekends. Shift differentials are based on a 4-hour minimum. For example:

• Mon - Fri: 6pm to 8am = +$4.00/hr. Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 8am to 6pm = +$4.00/hr. Shift Differential
• Sat & Sun: 6pm to 8am = +$5.50/hr. Shift Differential

As an Emergency Veterinary Technician, you will:

• Induce, monitor and recover anesthesia in patients and use anesthesia/monitoring equipment.
• Triage emergency cases as they arrive at the hospital including obtaining vitals such as temperature heart rate, respiratory rate and blood pressure.
• Perform digital radiography using proper technique including proper positioning of patients.
• Have a complete understanding of normal ranges of patient vital signs, including but not limited to heart and respiratory rate, temperature, blood pressure and oxygen saturation.
• Obtain and interpret blood pressure and other vital signs and alert Veterinarian to changes and issues.
• Identify patients at risk for arrest and initiate CPR.
• Properly calculate medical math (including constant rate infusions) and administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Are proficient at performing phlebotomy and placing intravenous catheters in all peripheral vessels.
• Place and maintain feeding tubes and central line catheters.
• Have a passion for mentoring and training other co-workers.
• Have patience and empathy to address client concerns.
• Perform additional relevant job responsibilities.
