Job summary

MedVet, a leading emergency veterinary hospital, is seeking an experienced Emergency Veterinary Technician in New Orleans. This part-time role covers Fridays 7am–5pm and alternate Saturdays/Sundays 7am–5pm, with a focus on treating critically ill patients and supporting DVMs in high-stress environments.

The ideal candidate has 2+ years of emergency/critical care experience, is a collaborative team player, and excels in medical math and client communication.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of experience in emergency/critical care
• Experience in fast-paced, unpredictable environments
• Proficient in calculating drug doses (medical math)
• Comfortable with humane euthanasia and high-acuity cases

Responsibilities

• Provide emergency and critical care for critically ill or injured patients
• Place lines (PICC/central lines)
• Perform in-house diagnostics (blood work, radiographs)
• Administer blood products and vasopressors
• Assist with anesthesia and sedation
• Record rounds and discuss cases with DVMs
• Educate clients on home care and medications
• Monitor hospitalized patients and nursing care
