Emergency Veterinary Technician

The Animal Emergency & Referral Associates in West Caldwell, NJ is hiring a dedicated and enthusiastic Certified Veterinary Technician/Experienced Veterinary Assistant to join our Emergency team!

Founded in 1977, the Animal Emergency Group has been a pioneer in around-the-clock emergency care for pets, evolving into Animal Emergency & Referral Associates (AERA) in the mid-nineties, and expanding its services to 24/7 emergency care in 2016. We are committed to innovation, expertise, and compassionate care for every pet.

Position Overview:

This role supports ER doctors with treatments and procedures, ensuring high-quality patient care. The technician/assistant must demonstrate attention to detail, uphold cleanliness, and work collaboratively to achieve optimal outcomes. Strong communication skills are essential.

Compensation:
  • $23-$30 based on skill/experience
  • Credentialed Technicians: $26-$38/hour
  • Sign-On Bonus: $5000 for LVTs, $7500 for VTS candidates
Available Schedules:
  • Sunday – Wednesday: 7am-5pm or 4pm-2am
Key Responsibilities:
  • Patient triage, assessment, IV placement, phlebotomy, intubations, injections, radiology, lab work, anesthesia, CPR
  • Administer first aid, monitor critical patients, support stabilization
  • Accurate documentation, communication with doctors, maintain cleanliness, operate equipment
  • Restrain patients, record histories, administer medications, collect lab specimens
  • Assist with euthanasia, client education, restocking, and training staff
Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Minimum 2 years applicable experience
  • Knowledge of safety, sanitation, medical terminology, and equipment
  • Strong communication skills, fluency in English required, multilingual a plus
  • Ability to calculate dosages, perform CPR, follow directions, and remain calm in emergencies
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor’s Degree
  • Certified Veterinary Technician (LVT, RVT, CVT)
  • 2+ years in emergency or specialty setting
