VEG ER for Pets in Falls Church, VA seeks a per diem Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support the team from day one, triaging patients, comforting pet parents, and learning procedures in real time. You’ll contribute to all stages of care, from triage to treatments, while growing your skills alongside credentialed staff.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Enrolled in AVMA‑accredited veterinary technology program a plus.
• 1+ years in a veterinary assistant role (emergency or specialty experience is a bonus).
• Basic computer skills and understanding of practice management software and EMR keeping.
• Excellent communicator when collaborating with pet parents and your team.
• Fine motor skills for handling patients and medical equipment.
• Ability to stand for prolonged hours, kneel, and lift up to 25 kg (support up to 40 kg).
• Willing to work in a noisy environment with odors.
• Willingness to work nights, weekends, and holidays on a rotating basis.

Responsibilities

• Be the first warm welcome and triage incoming patients, guiding them toward care.
• Assist with treatments, nursing care, and diagnostics from bloodwork to imaging.
• Support anesthesia and sedation with credentialed staff.
• Set up and manage IV fluids, transfusions, and meds.
• Care for patients in outpatient or inpatient settings.
• Attend patient rounds to maintain continuity of care.
• Learn CPR and RECOVER Certification (training provided).
• Grow into advanced responsibilities through guided training paths.
• Work within state laws.
