Job summary

MedVet is seeking a Part Time Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our clinical team. Schedule includes Wednesday/Thursday or Friday/Saturday from 7pm to 7am, with weekend and overnight care supported by shift differentials.

Responsibilities include evaluating patients, assisting DVM, monitoring hospitalized cases, and providing client education. Prior vet experience and strong communication are essential.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience required; emergency experience is a plus.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, CRIs, unit conversions, etc.).
• Flexible schedule and ability to work additional hours when needed.
• Work efficiently in a fast-paced setting.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information as necessary.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education including home care instructions and medications.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house lab testing and prepare samples for outside labs.

Schedule

Wednesday / Thursday or Friday / Saturday 7p-7a

What you'll do

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education including, but not limited to home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are

• Prior veterinary experience required; previous emergency experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Compensation

This position has an initial hiring range of $20.75 to $31.00 per hour based on skillset and experience. We support our weekend and overnight caregivers with lucrative shift differentials:

• Hours worked between 8pm and 11:59pm = base pay + $2/hour
• Hours worked between 12am to 7:59am = base pay + $3/hour
• Hours worked on Weekends (day or night) = base pay +$1/hour + any applicable differential
