Job summary

MedVet in the United States is seeking a Part-time ER/ICU Veterinary Assistant to join our fast‑growing Emergency and Specialty team. You will support rounds, triage, and nursing care for hospitalized patients, while educating clients on home care and medications.

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education including home‑care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in‑house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Position: ER/ICU Veterinary Assistant – Part time

Schedule: Sunday 9 a.m.–7 p.m., Wednesday 7 a.m.–7 p.m.

What you’ll do

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment

Who you are

• Prior veterinary experience required; previous emergency experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast‑paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Compensation

This position has an initial hiring range of $20.75 to $31.00 per hour based on skillset and experience. We support our weekend and overnight caregivers with lucrative shift differentials:

• Hours worked between 8 p.m. and 11:59 p.m. = base pay + $2 / hour
• Hours worked between 12 a.m. to 7:59 a.m. = base pay + $3 / hour
• Hours worked on weekends (day or night) = base pay + $1 / hour + any applicable differential
