Job summary

MedVet is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our night shift team in Ohio. The role involves rounds, case discussions, and coordinating with the patient care team to ensure timely, high‑quality care for emergency patients.

You will assist veterinarians with assessments, treatments, and procedures, monitor hospitalized patients, and educate clients on home care and medications. Strong communication skills are essential, as is the ability to thrive in a fast‑paced setting.

Qualifications

• Prior veterinary experience required; emergency experience preferred.
• Strong calculation skills for drugs, dosages, and conversions.
• Flexibility with night shifts and overtime as needed.
• Able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases, and gather information as necessary.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Collaborate with patient care team on treatment plans and nursing care concerns.
• Provide client education on home care, medications, and hospital updates.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment, and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.

We are looking for:

Emergency Veterinary Assistant

Proposed Hours: Sun/Mon/Tue 7p-7a

What you’ll do:

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education including, but not limited to home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are:

• Prior veterinary experience required; previous emergency experience desired
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, constant rate infusions, unit conversions, etc.)
• Flexibility with work hours and able to work additional hours when necessary
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
