Job summary

MedVet in Carmel, Indiana seeks an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to join our dynamic emergency and specialty team. You’ll work with the DVM and patient care staff to evaluate incoming patients, prioritize care, and provide nursing and anesthesia support in a fast-paced ER.

The role requires a veterinary technician license or eligibility, prior veterinary experience (emergency preferred), and strong calculation skills. Excellent verbal and written communication are essential.

Qualifications

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred.
• Prior veterinary experience required; emergency experience desired.
• Proficient in calculations (drugs, CRIs, unit conversions).
• Flexibility with work hours, able to work extra hours when needed.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather information.
• Evaluate incoming patients and prioritize based on assessment.
• Collaborate with patient care team on treatment plans and nursing care.
• Educate clients on home care, medications, and wellness.
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures.
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients.
• Induce and monitor anesthesia and sedation procedures.
• Perform in-house lab testing and prep samples for outside labs.

We are looking for:

Emergency Veterinary Assistant

Our Emergency team is the perfect place for technicians who thrive in a fast-paced environment, can shift gears quickly and handle the stress of critical situations with ease. Every day is different and there’s never the same case twice!

What you’ll do:

• Record and deliver organized rounds, discuss cases and gather additional information as necessary
• Evaluating incoming patients and prioritizing based on assessment
• Partner with patient care team regarding treatment plans, client communication and nursing care concerns
• Provide client education including, but not limited to: home care instructions, medications (indications, adverse reactions) and general wellness updates on hospitalized patients
• Assist DVM with patient assessment, treatment and procedures
• Provide monitoring and nursing care to hospitalized patients
• Induce and monitor general anesthesia and sedation procedures
• Perform in-house laboratory testing and prepare samples for outside laboratory testing

Who you are:

• State Registered Veterinary Technician license preferred
• Prior veterinary experience required, previous emergency experience desired
