Job summary

BluePearl Pet Hospital in Lafayette, CO is seeking a knowledgeable Veterinary Assistant for their fast-paced emergency department, including triage and ICU support. The role involves assisting DVMs with estimates, performing diagnostics, ICU/inpatient setup, and client communication.

Qualifications

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during rounds.
• Understand classifications of medications and monitor response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy and basic diagnostic tasks.
• Conduct physical exams and monitor vitals and mucous membranes.
• Maintain knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and ASA I/II patients.
• Stay current on CPR guidelines and patient care roles.

Responsibilities

• Provide nursing care to patients according to hospital standards of care and core values.
• Report patient signalment, problem list and plan during nursing rounds.
• Understand classification of commonly used medications, associated side effects and appropriately monitors therapeutic response.
• Administer medications via appropriate routes and duration.
• Perform phlebotomy.
• Perform physical exam; accurately counts heart rate, capillary refill, mucous membranes, temperature and respiratory effort.
• Possess working knowledge of anesthesia/monitoring equipment and assist with ASA I/II patients.
• Remain current on R.E.C.O.V.E.R CPR guidelines and role assignments.
