Job summary

University of Missouri-Columbia seeks a Veterinary Assistant to support the Small Animal Emergency and Critical Care Service, assisting veterinarians and technicians, triaging emergencies, restraining and transporting patients, and maintaining a clean, safe environment for student training.

The ideal candidate has a high school diploma, strong communication and organizational skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced setting.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Experience with animals preferred.
• Prior experience in a veterinary clinic is a plus.
• Ability to work in a busy environment and manage multiple tasks.

Responsibilities

• Assist veterinary technicians and clinicians with triaging emergency patients and managing critically ill patients.
• Safely restrain, handle, and transport patients.
• Assist with monitoring hospitalized patients.
• Collect diagnostic samples.
• Perform basic diagnostic procedures within the skill set of the assistant.
• Walk and feed patients.
• Respond to phone inquiries regarding emergencies and follow-ups.
• Utilize the hospital information system and other software for data entry and recording.
• Maintain the cleanliness of the ER, ICU, and service equipment.
• Maintain inventory and stock in the ER and ICU.
