Metropolitan Veterinary Associates is seeking an Emergency Veterinary Assistant to support our emergency department. The role involves assisting with triage, anesthesia, surgery, and discharge preparation, plus hands-on support during procedures and patient handling.

You will prepare treatment areas, restock supplies, and maintain clean equipment while communicating compassionately with pet parents. A calm, organized approach and willingness to learn are essential to thrive on our busy team.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a veterinary, animal care, or shelter environment (preferred).
• Solid communication skills, especially under pressure, and ability to collaborate in a team-focused environment.
• Basic knowledge of animal handling, restraint, and veterinary terminology (or willingness to learn).
• A calm, organized demeanor capable of juggling multiple tasks in a fast-paced setting.
• Attention to detail and accuracy when handling medical records, supplies, and patient care.
• A passion for continuous learning and professional growth.

Responsibilities

• Assist with triage, anesthesia, surgery and discharge preparation.
• Provide hands-on support during emergency procedures and patient handling.
• Prepare and restock treatment areas; keep equipment clean and ready.
• Communicate compassionately with pet parents and guide them to appropriate team members.
• Set up samples for testing and collect vital data under supervision.
• Collaborate with emergency staff to share updates and improve team workflow.
